FTP and Fine Print

File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, is a quick, inexpensive and easy way to transfer large digital files over the internet from a computer at one location to second computer at another location. Couldn't’t you just email the file? You could if its size was only a few megs. But most of the files we use for printing are much too large for email. Fine Print encourages you to utilize our FTP service as an alternative to shipping digital files to us on a CD. We offer two methods of sending digital files over the web.

If you are already an FTP wiz or are at least comfortable organizing files on your computer, then read on.

Step 1.  Call or email Fine Print’s customer service (1-800-777-1141 or info@fineprintimaging.com) and let us know that you want to FTP files to us. We will provide you with three essential pieces of information:

               1. Our FTP site IP address (something like 216.8.92.232).

               2. A unique user name (something like “greatprints”)

               3. A unique password (something like “youwin123")

Step 2. Open your FTP program and enter the IP address, username and password in the appropriate areas in your FTP software. Hit enter or go, and within a few seconds, you should be on our FTP site.

Step 3.  Browse through your computer for the file(s) you wish to transfer and select it. Hit the “upload” button or drag and drop your file into the open FTP page. Your file will begin loading. Depending on the size of your file and the speed of your internet connection, it could take anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours to upload your file - longer if you have multiple files to upload.

Step 4.  Call or email Fine Print’s customer service after your file has finished uploading to place your order.    

If you don’t have FTP software, we’d like to recommend a great freeware FTP program by Visicom Media called AceFTP.  For a free download, go to  http://software.visicommedia.com/en/products/aceftpfreeware/.

If you don’t want to use FTP but still want to send digital files to Fine Print, try this.

Step 1.  Call or email Fine Print’s customer service (1-800-777-1141 or info@fineprintimaging.com) and let us know that you want to send files to us. We will provide you with a web site address to access our online storage, a username, a password and a personal folder.

Step 2.  After accessing the web site and entering your username and password, you will see a number of file folders. Go to the folder we provided for you and open the folder.

Step 3.  Hit “Add File”, “Browse” through your computer for the file you wish to send and select it. If you want to upload additional files, click “Add another file” and repeat the process above.

Step 4. After you’ve selected all of the files you want to send, click “Start Upload”.
Your file(s) will begin transferring to your personal folder on Fine Print’s site.

Step 5.  Call or email Fine Print’s customer service after your file has finished uploading to place your order.
